Welcome to the future, everyone. We’ll be playing our first show of the new year this Friday, Jan 20th at O’Briens on Main in Santa Monica with our good friends from Northern California, Calling Morocco. It’s also Nick’s birthday this week, so come out to help us all celebrate. The show is FREE and will be super good times. See you at 10pm!
Happy 2012
January 18th, 2012YSA Music Video Premieres
November 22nd, 2011We’re super stoked to announce the premiere of our music video for Y.S.A., off our debut album New Symmetry. You can watch the video over at The Independent Film Channel, which is extremely exciting! This is our first-ever music video, and we had an absolute blast shooting it with the incredibly talented and hard-working people at Pros and Cons Studios. They did a fantastic job and put together an amazing video.
While we’re giving our Oscar speech, we’d also like to thank our director Brent Willis, producer Sean French, colorist Andrew Francis, the Academy, our parents for believing in us for all those years, our agent, and Billy Crystal. Especially Billy Crystal. But for serious, we can’t thank the people that made this happen enough – this was a true team effort and we’re unbelievably grateful for (and incredibly humbled by) the passion and energy everyone brought to this project.
Have a wonderful holiday and go easy on that stuffing there, cowboy.
New Symmetry Documentary
November 14th, 2011Filmmaker Chris Olness (www.veniceair.com) and editor Erin Nordstrom (Wilco’s I Am Trying to Break Your Heart) have teamed up to produce a 3-part mini-documentary series on the making of our debut album New Symmetry. Check it out for an inside look at the writing and recording process. The Comet has the premiere of the first part today, go watch it now!
New Symmetry Released!
October 25th, 2011The wait is finally over! New Symmetry has officially been released into the world. Like proud parents, we watched it grow and take shape before our very eyes, and now it’s ready to be listened to by YOU! We’ve poured ours hearts into this album for the past year and we’re immensely proud of it, and we really think you’ll like it. But don’t take our word for it, stream it for free on our Soundcloud page and listen for yourself. We’ll wait…for 44 minutes and 14 seconds…..There, wasn’t that AWESOME?! Now you’re ready to hop over to our online store, where you can download the album for only $8. That’s two bucks cheaper than iTunes (sorry Steve Jobs)!! And you can still pick up the special package with the limited edition t-shirt and signed poster. What a deal! Exclamation points!!!
If you live in the LA area, we hope you’ll come celebrate with us on Thursday at the Bootleg Bar as we perform the songs from New Symmetry with a full horn line. There’ll be a Halloween costume contest, homemade baked goods, door prizes, an art show, and all kinds of other fun stuff so we hope you can make it out.
We truly appreciate the love and support that you’ve all shown to us over the past year – without you none of this would be possible and we’d be playing in a garage somewhere by ourselves. Thanks for being the best fans a little indie band could ever hope for!
New Symmetry Pre-Sale Begins
October 19th, 2011The anticipation is building for the release of our debut full-length album New Symmetry, which comes out in less than a week on 10/25/11 (check out the early reviews HERE). We’re so excited that we wanted to get a jump start, so starting TODAY you can pre-order the album on vinyl or CD with a limited-edition super-awesome special package featuring a tote bag, a signed poster, and a one-of-a-kind t-shirt that’s ONLY available in the pre-order package. The shirt artwork was drawn by a fan while the band performed in Oregon on tour so it’s very near and dear to us, and we’re super stoked to share it with you!
You can purchase all these wonderful things through our fancy new online store. And if you happen to live in LA, we hope to see you next Thursday 10/27 at the Bootleg Bar at our album release party! It’s going to be an extra-special night as we take the stage with a full horn line, and there’ll be artwork to check out, a Halloween costume contest, all the homemade baked goods you can eat, and other fun surprises. We hope you can come celebrate with us!
Take Care Live Acoustic Video
October 11th, 2011The Audio Perv has just premiered the live acoustic video we shot for Take Care, off our ‘Call Signs’ EP! It’s a brand-spanking new arrangement of the song featuring some instrument switching – Dave Sicher on drums and Bryan on euphonium & organ – and was a total DIY effort with Dave Irelan handling the audio engineering and Bryan editing it together (thanks to Brent Willis and his team for running camera though, it’s tough to shoot and play at the same time). So pop on over and check it out! All part of the build-up to the October 25th release of our debut full-length album, New Symmetry – stay tuned for more videos and other fun stuff to come in the coming weeks!
Album Release Show Announced!
October 6th, 2011We’re super excited to announce the New Symmetry Album Release Show on October 27th at the Bootleg Bar! We’ve worked extremely hard on this album over the past year, and we can’t wait to share it with you. This will not be your ordinary Wires in the Walls show, either. Since many of the songs on New Symmetry feature horns, we’ll be performing the new material with a compliment of sax, trumpet and trombone players, and even re-arranging some old favorites to feature them. Plus, we’ll be featuring artwork by some very talented artists, special guest DJ sets, homemade baked goods, a free raffle with awesome prizes, a surprise video or two, and more!
As if that’s not enough, joining us in celebration will be two of our favorite bands – The Lonely Wild and The Ross Sea Party. Both these acts are incredible and we can’t tell you how pumped we are to be playing with them. Do yourself a favor and check them out, we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Also, since this show happens to fall on Halloween weekend, we’ll be dressing up and awarding prizes to the most creative costumes, so come dressed to impress! You can find all the details at this handy-dandy Facebook event page. This show could sell out, so we urge you to purchase advance tickets here: http://www.ticketfly.com/purchase/event/63139?utm_medium=bks
These next few weeks are going to be very busy in the Wires world – starting Monday we’ll be releasing a series of acoustic videos, a behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of New Symmetry, a music video for our song Y.S.A., and even a re-mix of our single The Ringer! Stay tuned to catch all the goodies.
We can’t wait to see you on the 27th!
Tour Blog – 10/2/11
October 3rd, 2011Well it was certainly a whirlwind final few days on the road. After some tasty sandwiches in Bend with our lovely new friends, we struck out for Eugene. We tried to ford the river, but our damn oxen died, and then Sicher got dysentery. What, you think we were gonna go on tour through Oregon and not make at least one Oregon Trail joke? We also saw some very apocalyptic lava fields. It was like being in the movie The Road, but not as depressing.
Our show in Eugene got off to a smashing start when we saw this amazing poster in the venue window. Things got even better as we played a solid set and met some very enthusiastic and awesome people afterwards.
Then it was into the van for an insane all-night, 14-hour drive back to LA. Highlight: watching the sun rise over the mountains in far northern California. Lowlight: being in a van for 14 hours with 5 sweaty dudes after playing a rock show. But we made it back safe and sound, which is good because our final show of tour is Tuesday night at the Central SAPC in Santa Monica, and best of all it’s FREE! We hit at 9pm, and our friends Escalator Hill are on right afterwards. Come out, say hi, and we’ll tell you all the tour stories that weren’t fit for the Internet (because if there’s one thing the Internet is, it’s family-friendly).
Tour Blog – 9/30/11
October 1st, 2011We’ve seen so much nature the past few days in Northern California and Oregon, it’s come as quite a shock to a bunch of Angelenos who normally only see the great outdoors in the form of over-manicured lawns and the occasional massive cockroach. Super tall Redwood trees, gorgeous conifer-covered mountains, rivers that aren’t made of concrete, night skies with more than five stars – we’re starting to feel like bonafide mountain men. We’ve even got a week’s worth of stubbly beard growth to prove it.
After great shows in Eureka and Portland on Wednesday and Thursday, we found ourselves in the gorgeous central Oregon city of Bend, home to one of the coolest venues we’ve ever laid eyes on, the Horned Hand. Run by two of the nicest people you’d ever have the pleasure of meeting, Wesley and his wife Kally, this place was decked out in sweet animal antlers and skeletons and served delicious local beer and the most delectable fish n’ chips we’d ever tasted.
The opening bands were awesome, everyone was super nice, and we were even lucky enough to have a local artist sketch the band during our performance (thanks Rachel!). There are more sketches that we’ll upload later, but here’s a few choice drawings. All in all, a lovely experience.
Also, we learned that in Oregon anyplace that serves booze also has to serve food, which was crucial after the show when we were all starving but still very thirsty. Sliders and whiskey at 2:30am are a winning combination for sure.
Tour Blog – 9/28/11
September 28th, 2011We’re somewhere in central California, just outside of Sacramento heading towards Eureka for our big show tonight at the Lil Red Lion. This is the first of two Dave Irelan homecoming shows since he’s originally from Humbolt and Portland, so he’s been volunteering to drive the van like crazy the past two days so that he can pass it off to someone else and get his drink on now. So anybody coming out tonight or tomorrow, buy the man a drink to reward him for planning so well ahead.
We had a great show in Sacramento last night, everyone was super nice and the sound was fantastic. Check out Irelan grabbing mad air during YSA.
We spent the afternoon tooling around the city – there was a lovely park by the river where we shot some footage for our next music video (it’s gonna be both awesome AND in 3D) and then took naps. Bryan was so inspired by being in the state capital that he wore his California bear socks.
This followed an extremely difficult day of hanging out in Napa before playing an acoustic set at Armadillo Records in Davis. Touring in California might mean longer drives, but it certainly pays off in beautiful locales. Beats sitting in traffic on the I-95 corridor on the east coast, that’s for sure.
